Hakkâri'den Ankara'ya Kâğıtçılar / Scavengers from Hakkari to Ankara (documentary)

Hakkari'den Ankara'ya Kagitcilar (belgesel) / Scavengers from Hakkari to Ankara (documentary)

1994 yilinda Hakkari'nin Ordekli (Kotranis) koyunden goc etmek zorunda kalan yuzlerce kisi halen Ankara'nin merkezinde coplerden kagit toplamaya devam ediyor.

Hundreds of people, who have been forced to migrate from their village Ordekli (Kotranis) in Hakkari at 1994, are still picking wastes at the garbage sites in the center of Ankara. A group of people, which started to record their lives on video between the years of 2001 and 2004 with an amateur aim, witnessed the pains of their forced migration and their fight against the wildest face of capitalism in the capital city of Turkey. This documentary tells the story of those people -from a 13 years old child taking care of his family off the garbage of Ankara to an old man being expelled from his village- their efforts to exist just with their labor despite despite all deportations, contempt and discrimination just by relying on their labour.

Nick Drake Tribute

Be sure to click on the "Updates" tab above for more video and info on the project.

Do you like Nick Drake? Do you like jazz?
If you answered "yes" to either or both of those questions then you've come to the right place!
Hello and welcome to the Kickstarter page for the Jason Parker Quartet'snew CD, "Five Leaves Left: A Jazz Tribute to Nick Drake"!
It's been a dream of mine to record this stunning music with my band, and that dream will come to fruition on December 26th when we enter Jack Straw Studios with the incredible engineer Doug Haire for three days of recording. Josh RawlingsEvan Flory-BarnesD'Vonne Lewis and I will be joined by our dear friends Cynthia Mullis (sax) and Michele Khazak (vocals) as we attempt to put our own JPQ spin on the 10 songs that make up Nick's debut album, "Five Leaves Left". I've been working on the arrangements for two years, we've been rehearsing and playing the tunes on gigs for months, and we're ready to go!
But we need your help!
I want to do this project right, which is going to cost a significant amount of money. I'm putting as much of my own money into it as I can afford (and as my wife will let me!). I've gotten a grant from Jack Straw for 50% off their studio fees. But I still need about $5000. This money will be used to:
- Pay Josh, Evan, D'Vonne, Cynthia & Michele a fair wage for rehearsals and recording sessions
- Pay Jack Straw Studios $27.50/hr. for studio time (this is half price!)
- Pay Doug Haire, our amazing recording engineer
- Pay Robert Lange, our amazing mixer
- Pay Mark Guenther, our amazing mastering engineer
- Pay the Nick Drake estate licensing fees to record Nick's music
As you can see, your pledge isn't all about me, it also supports 8 hard-working independent artists and a non-profit recording studio. You are helping to support a large cross-section of the music scene here in Seattle!
This Kickstarter campaign is a way for me to raise the funds necessary to complete phase one of this project. By pledging a few of your hard-earned dollars you are helping us "live the dream".
I hope you're ready to come with us on this journey.
I am offering various packages that will give you access to different parts of our process, from audio and video of our rehearsals and the recording session, toone-of-a-kind pieces of art from the CD itself, to a chance to join us in the studio as a producer of the album. All the packages are listed on the right side of this page...I'm sure there's one that's right for you!
All I ask in return is that you pre-order the CD.
It's these pre-order funds that will allow me to pay the studio, engineers, band members and mastering house for their contributions.
I want to make very clear that EVERY pledge matters and is crucial to helping us achieve our goal. I only want you to pledge what feels comfortable to you. It's more important that you make a pledge than how much that pledge is.
That being said, everyone who pledges $50 or more will receive a signed CD and two tickets to the CD Release Party in addition to the other rewards included in each level. What a deal! ;)
Your pledge of support is just that. Your credit card will not be charged at this time. You will only be charged at the completion of this campaign on December 23rd if I reach my goal.
Please be aware that this is an all-or-nothing campaign. If I hit my financial goal of $5000 the project gets funded. If I don't meet my goal, your credit card does not get charged and I receive no money at all.
If you're strapped for cash and just can't pony up a pledge at this time, never can still help out! At the top of the page there are links that'll allow you to post this page to your Facebook wall, your Twitter feed or your blog, and to send it to your friends via email. Kickstarter also has a handy-dandy widget that you can paste into just about any website you wish. I would be most grateful if you would share this with your friends and family, especially if the are fans of Nick Drake or jazz, or just like to support the arts!
I can't tell you how excited I am that this project is finally going to see the light of day! And I can't wait to share the whole process with you, every step of the way. I hope you'll join us for what will be an amazing experience for us all.
"Why Nick Drake?", you might ask. All I can tell you is that his music speaks to me. I've been a fan since the very first time I heard his delicate voice and incredible guitar work on the radio. His music is so evocative. Listening to his music conjures up images of the stark British countryside, fog rolling over the moors, rain sweeping the windows. Sounds like Seattle, doesn't it? Perhaps that's why his music resonates with me so profoundly - because it speaks to my sense of place, my home. Whatever the case, there's nothing more exquisite than putting "Day Is Done" on the hi-fi at full volume and drinking in the Autumnal scenes outside the window.
His music is also perfectly suited to the JPQ. The songs are fairly simple harmonically, which leaves us ample room to improvise and put our own stamp on them. You can watch a video of us playing Nick's tune "Three Hours" live here.
